Lincoln Police say a 76-year-old woman has lost thousands of dollars in a gold bar scam. Captain Todd Kocian says the woman reported receiving phone calls and letters late last month from people claiming to be from the Federal Trade Commission.

“The victim was told she was being investigated for money laundering in Texas, Kocian says.  “She was instructed to order a gold bar from an online company and have it shipped to her house.” Kocian says after receiving the gold bar the woman was told to meet the “investigating agent” at the Walmart at 27th & Superior.

“She was instructed to place the gold bar in the back of a white sedan, which then left the scene.  The total loss was $66,984 and the investigation  is continuing.
