A stolen fire truck from Pawnee County was found Tuesday on a man’s property near Bennet. Lancaster County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says the grass fire rig was stolen from the Burchard Volunteer Fire Department on June 23.

He says on Tuesday the Nebraska State Patrol did a flyover of the property and located the truck.  “Inside the house they found the vehicle’s light bar, fire masks, radios, road cones and hose nozzles.”

Houchin says 25-year-old Shelby Watkins of Omaha had been previously arrested by the Pawnee County Sheriff’s Department for burglary and theft of the fire rig.  The property owner is cooperating with investigators but Houchin says it’s not known how it ended up on that property.

He says the property owner is cooperating with investigators.
