Nebraska Basketball Gets Trampled at Ohio State

By Matt McMaster Feb 14, 2024 | 7:56 PM

Nebraska was unable to make it two wins in a row against the number two team in the country Wednesday night, losing 80-47 at Ohio State. NU moves to 16-9 on the year and 8-6 in the Big Ten.

Coming off of one of the biggest wins in the Amy Williams era, Nebraska couldn’t carry the momentum into Columbus, Ohio. The Buckeyes controlled the game from tip to buzzer and never trailed in the contest.

It was arguably the worst offensive performance for the season from the Cornhuskers as they turned the ball over 30 times. OSU’s full-court press was a dominant force as Nebraska found no answer for it in 40 minutes of play. The Buckeyes’ press contributed to their back-breaking 29 points off of turnovers.

When Nebraska could actually get the ball over halfcourt, nothing improved. NU shot 36% from the floor, and no Husker reached the double-digit mark. The Husker’s 47 points were the lowest they scored in a game this season.

OSU got everything they wanted on the offensive end, shooting 50% from the floor and 45% from behind the arc. The Buckeyes were led by unstoppable senior guard Jacey Sheldon, who dropped 23 points on 9 of 15 shots from the floor.

Nebraska will look to bounce back from this disappointing loss when they travel to take on the Purdue Boilermakers on Feb. 17.
