Casey’s General Store has appointed a Lincoln man to fill a pivotal office within their operations: Chief Pizza & Beer Officer.
In mid-January, Casey’s announced they would be accepting applications for the best qualified candidate to taste combinations of Casey’s pizza and beer, and conduct “serious” research into pizza and beer pairings.
Joe Cruz of Lincoln is that candidate, and today was announced to be Casey’s first official CPBO.
The job will be more than just tasting pizza and beer, however. “In addition to spearheading pizza and beer pairing research, the Chief Pizza & Beer Officer will be responsible for creating compelling social media content to inform Casey’s Country fans about research findings and attending public events to spread their passion for Casey’s pizza and beer,” said the official job announcement release.
“What are my qualifications you ask?” Cruz said in a social media video, “One: I love pizza. Two: I love beer. Three: I love togetherness; whether its pairing a great Casey’s pizza with a great beer, or using that pizza and beer to unit each and everyone of us. Four: I have great business ethics. I have also, great regulars ethics when were not doing business stuff. Five: I have great communication skills. Ask anyone in town, they’ll say I communicate the best… except my wife — don’t ask my wife — you don’t have to bother her about that, she might disagree.”
The benefits of what Casey’s described as “Best Job Ever” include job supplies like receiving pizza and beer from Casey’s stores, branded glassware and other swag, coverage of travel costs for position duties and a negotiable compensation package.
To help the company recruit for the esteemed position, Casey’s partnered with former NFL defensive lineman and well-known content creator and comedian Anthony “Spice” Adams, as its search consultant. He “called” Cruz and told him he got the job.
