Lincoln Animal Control Urging Residents to Spay/Neuter Their Pets

By Chase Porter Feb 6, 2024 | 11:46 AM

If you have yet to spay or neuter your pets, Lincoln Animal Control says now may be a good time.

February is recognized as Spay/Neuter Awareness Month.

Currently, animal shelters in Lincoln are operating at/over capacity. Animal Control Manager Steve Beal says keeping your pets spayed or neutered can help control overpopulation, “And may also prevent medical and behavioral issues, allowing them to lead a longer, healthier and happier life,” he said.

Animal Control offers financial assistance to pet owners with limited incomes for part of the cost of spay/neuter services. Contact Lincoln Animal Control at 402-441-7900 for more information or visit the Animal Control office, 3131 “O” St., (east entrance) for a spay/neuter packet.

Lincoln Animal Control helped 89 pet owners spay or neuter their pets through its assistance program in fiscal year 2022-2023.

Additional benefits of spaying or neutering pets include:

  • Pets will be calmer, more obedient and affectionate, and will get along better with other pets
  • Pets will be less susceptible to certain types of cancer
  • Pets will be less likely to roam
  • Pet owners can save money on yearly pet licensing fees
