Slick roads are being blamed for a two vehicle crash on Highway 77 near Pickrell Friday morning. The Nebraska State Patrol says troopers responded to the crash around 6:00 a.m. Patrol Spokesman Cody Thomas says a pickup was traveling southbound on Highway 77 when the driver lost control on the icy roads and spun into the northbound lanes.
The pickup was struck by a semi hauling propane. The driver of the pickup was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Thomas says the pickup and semi cab caught fire, but the semi driver was able to get out and was not hurt. The propane trailer did not rupture and was not part of the fire.
The name of the pickup driver is being withheld until investigators can make contact with family. The crash remains under investigation.
