Explore Lincoln’s 92 Trail Miles with Annual ‘Trail-A-Thon’

By Chase Porter Jan 24, 2024 | 12:20 PM

Hikers, bikers, and joggers will be hitting the trails again this year for the 5th annual Lincoln Trail-A-Thon challenge.

Sponsored by the Great Plains Trails Network (GPTN), the Lincoln Trail-A-Thon is a challenge to ride a bike, run, walk or jog all the trails within the Lincoln city limits in 2024. When participants finish, they will have traversed over 92 miles of trails.

Trail-goers this year will receive Trail-A-Thon drawstring bag, and everyone that finishes all 12 routes by December 31, 2024, will be entered into a drawing for a prize package worth over $100.

Lincoln Trail-A-Thon Committee Chair Dena Noe told KLIN News, this challenge is a great way to get outdoors and explore the community, “Maybe you live on the Southside of town and you’ve never had a chance to get out on the The John Dietrich Trail. Or maybe you haven’t had a chance to go to Mahoney Park and walk around there. So this gives you an opportunity to see where the trails are. Then the beautiful thing is, how do they connect the entire city. You can do a whole loop around Lincoln.”

There are 12 monthly trail routes you can finish in any order. As you complete each route, you are encouraged to record your progress. Each month GPTN will send out an email with an update on everyone’s progress.

The cost is $25 for anyone 19 years or older; or $10 for ages 6-18. All proceeds go to building trails in Lincoln.
