Blood To Challenge Flood For Congress

By Tom Stanton Jan 23, 2024 | 1:33 PM

Two years after running for Nebraska governor,  State Senator Carol Blood of Bellevue is preparing to run for Congress.  Blood says she will challenge Mike Flood in Nebraska’s 1st Congressional District.

Blood will have a kickoff announcement Saturday afternoon at 1:00 at the electrical workers’ union hall in Lincoln. Blood will be term limited out of the legislature after the current session.  In a statement to KLIN News Blood says she will bring back a strong voice to Washington that represents all Nebraskans, not the vocal minority.

“Our Congress is in complete disarray and our Congressman Mike Flood has forgotten his non-partisan roots  and ability to work across the aisle,” Blood tells KLIN News. “The current Congress can’t even pass a long-term budget to fund our military, protect our seniors and the least among us and continue to invest in infrastructure, families, first responders and education.”

Blood outlined some of her goals if she is elected.  “I will protect Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security as we know it.  I support the refundable child tax credit and a competitive minimum wage so working people can pay their bills.  I’m running because it appears that nobody is even interested in working on good policy but continue to stay in campaign mode instead of doing their jobs.”

Blood is a Democrat and has lived in Sarpy County for many years.  She was on the Bellevue City Council from 2008 until 2016 before being elected to the Legislature.
