The search for the next University of Nebraska president is moving forward. The application process ended January 1 and a review of the candidates is underway according to Tim Clare, Chairman of the NU Board of Regents and the 22-member search committee.
He says they have a strong pool of candidates that are interested in the job and they are taking their time to find the right leader. Clare hopes to have the process wrapped up by the end of the first quarter.
“We’re not going to settle. We are going to keep pursuing and finding that perfect candidate that is going to represent and lead the university system and it’s campuses.” The search committee will forward a list of semi-finalists to the board for further consideration.
The board will then select one priority candidate and that person will undergo a 30-day public vetting period before a final vote. Clare tells KLIN News what they are looking for in the next system president.
“Somebody who has a bold vision that will attract and retain top quality faculty and top quality students. Somebody that has Nebraska ties and roots and is willing to be in the position for a 7-10 year time frame.”
Ted Carter resigned after four years as president and moved on to a new job at Ohio State.
