If you’re wondering how to keep your kids active and busy when school is out for the summer, Lincoln Parks and Recreation has announced that registration is open for the 2024 Summer Day Camp programs.

There are numerous different programs suited for all different age ranges, Kat Scholl with Parks & Rec told KLIN News.

Summer Day Camps are offered June 3rd through August 9th. Camps are from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays and cost $156 per child, per five-day week, and $125 per four-day week (June 13–17 and July 1–5 sessions only). Elementary and middle school-age children may be registered for the entire summer or on a week-to-week basis.

The summer camps focus on creating fun memories, exploring and experiencing new adventures, making friends, and celebrating youth. Each week, campers will enjoy swimming, arts and crafts, active games, and field trips to museums and zoos. Camp locations include:

  • Air Park Community Neighborhood Center, 3720 N.W. 46th St.
  • Belmont Recreation Center, 1234 Judson St.
  • Calvert Recreation Center, 4500 Stockwell St.
  • Irving Recreation Center, 2010 Van Dorn St.
  • McPhee Elementary School, 820 Goodhue Blvd.

“Some of those locations do book out, but we oftentimes will have a waitlist on those locations,” said Scholl.

For youth 6th to 8th grade, the city offers the Extreme Teens Summer Camp at the F Street Community Center, 1225 “F” Street. Activities include positive peer engagement, learning about independent living skills, community engagement, physical fitness and nutrition in a fun and supportive urban environment. Extreme Teens Day Camp are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays from June 3 through August 9 and cost $60 per week, and $53 per four-day week. There are no camps on June 19 or the week of July 1–5.

Scholl says there are also golf camps, Nature Camps hosted at the Pioneers Park Nature Center, and Adaptive Recreation Camps for individuals, both children and adults with special needs.

“We are all about having fun, getting out, and playing. That’s how children learn,” said Scholl. “We’ve got a series of different activities each week for those kids participating. Many of those locations will make trips to the pool and attend field trips to places like the Nature Center, the Lincoln Children’s Zoo, local museums, and other parks facilities. It’s a very reliable source for structure and fun throughout the summertime.”
