No one was hurt after fire broke out inside a garage near SW 17th and West Lake around 9:30 Wednesday night. LFR Public Information Officer MJ Lierman tells KLIN News crews could see the fire from three blocks away as they arrived.
“They got a quick knock down and had it under control in less than ten minutes.” Lierman says the fire started in the garage and was caused by a cutting torch that ignited some materials that was too close to it.
She says most of the damage was to the garage but the fire also caused damage to the area above it. Investigators estimate the total damage at nearly $200,000. The three residents and a dog made it out safely and are being relocated by the Red Cross.
