Lancaster County Election Commissioner Todd Wiltgen says the recently installed drop boxes at all four Lincoln libraries are now open in advance of the primary election on Tuesday, May 14th. Wiltgen says opening the new drop boxes was timed to coincide with the first day the Election Commission may accept early vote ballot applications for the primary.
The Election Commission will start mailing early vote ballot applications to all Lancaster County voters on the Permanent Early Vote Request list on Monday, February 12th. Voters who do not want to wait until they receive an early vote application in the mail or are not on the permanent list may obtain an early vote request form on the Election Commissioner’s website at: www.lancaster.ne.gov/election or they may also contact the Election Commissioner’s Office at (402) 441-7311 to request a form be mailed to them.
Voters may also request an early vote ballot by submitting a letter to the Election Commissioner requesting an early vote ballot be mailed to them. In addition to providing their name, address and signature, the letter must also include a Nebraska Driver’s License or State ID Number; a photocopy of another valid photo identification; or a reasonable impediment certification. The completed and signed application or letter may be mailed or dropped off at any drop box location excluding the existing drop box on the north side of the Election Office located at 601 North 46th Street. It was damaged over the weekend by snow removal equipment and is closed until further notice. Voters may utilize one of the new drop box locations at one of the four Lincoln libraries 24/7 or drop them off in the Election Office Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. They may also submit their request via the United States Postal Service.
