City Seeking Volunteers For Snow Angels Program

By Tom Stanton Jan 12, 2024 | 3:06 PM

The City of Lincoln is looking for volunteers to join the Snow Angels Volunteer Program.  The program started in 2012 and connects cold weather-loving volunteers with Lincoln residents who need assistance with snow removal.

The program had 74 volunteers in 2021 and currently there are 43 registered volunteers, a 42% decrease in participation. “Removing snow from sidewalks and driveways can be a challenge for many Lincoln residents, especially after large storms. The Snow Angels Volunteer Program shows how the Lincoln community comes together and turns winter challenges into opportunities to help and support our neighbors,” says LTU Director Liz Elliott.

“It is a small act that sends a big message that we will stick together in all kinds of weather.”  City ordinance requires property owners to clear snow and ice from sidewalks by 9 a.m. the day following the end of the snowstorm. The City often receives calls from residents who are physically unable to remove the snow themselves.

Individuals and organizations interested in becoming a Snow Angel volunteer can register online at lincoln.ne.gov/SnowAngels. Volunteers set their own availability and are not required to have a snow blower.

For assistance finding a volunteer or registering for the program, call LTU Maintenance Operations at 402-441-7701.
