A 76-year-old man who was found dead inside a home near Memorial Stadium last month is now being investigated as a homicide. LPD says officers went to the house near 12th and New Hampshire December 19 to do a welfare check.
“When they arrived, officers attempted to make contact, but no one responded,” says Assistant Chief Jason Stille. “They also smelled natural gas coming from the home and requested assistance from LFR.”
Stille says they shut the gas stove off and once the air quality improved LFR crews went inside and found 45- year-old Alaric Harden. He was given medical treatment on scene and taken to the hospital.
Crews went back in and found Larry Cole dead. Stille believes his body had been in the home for a few days. After being released from the hospital Harden was cited and booked into the Lancaster County Jail for removing or concealing human remains.
Police have not yet said whether Harden is a suspect in Cole’s death. Anyone with information is asked to call the Lincoln Police Department at 402-441-6000 or to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
