No. 14 Indiana Too Much for Nebraska

By Kaleb Henry Jan 7, 2024 | 3:40 PM

A jersey retirement and recognition of alumni were the end of the good times for Nebraska women’s basketball Sunday.

No. 14 Indiana (13-1, 4-0) Big Ten ran away from NU 91-69. The Huskers fall to 11-4 on the year and 3-1 in league play.

Before the game, Nebraska legend Jordan Hooper’s No. 35 was retired at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Hooper was a 2014 first-team All-American and Big Ten Player of the Year. Her jersey now hangs next to Kelsey Griffin (2006-10), Maurtice Ivy (1985-88), and Karen Jennings (1990-93).

As soon as play began on the court, the Hoosiers refused to miss. Indiana shot 66.7 percent in the first quarter, including 5-of-7 from 3, to race out to a 20-15 lead.

The lone Husker lead of the game came at 4-3 but lasted less than a minute.

Nebraska put together a 13-4 run in the third quarter to cut the deficit to just seven points. Indiana answered with an 14-1 run to close the quarter and effectively seal the game.

The Hoosiers shot 60.7 percent for the game and made 14-of-23 3s. Nebraska shot a respectable 44.3 percent, including 9-of-22 triples.

Alexis Markowski led Nebraska with 21 points and six rebounds. Freshman Logan Nissley added 13 points, with 10 of those coming in the second half.

Nebraska stays home Thursday to host Illinois.
