LSO Urging Drivers To Prepare For Monday Snowfall

By Tom Stanton Jan 5, 2024 | 1:27 PM

Weather forecast models are showing more signs of agreement that some parts of eastern Nebraska could receive some significant snow starting late Sunday.   The National Weather Service says several inches of snow are possible for the Lincoln area, but where the heaviest snow will fall is not yet known.

Lancaster County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Ben Houchin is encouraging drivers to take precautions. “If you don’t have to go someplace when the weather is bad please stay at home.”  He says if you do have to venture out slow down and give yourself some space.  “If you do start to slide don’t jam on your breaks and don’t panic and oversteer.”

Houchin says make sure your cell phone is fully charged and have a blanket, extra clothes and boots in your car. If you get stranded, call 911 but don’t leave your car.  Houchin says most importantly make sure you wear your seatbelt.

If you do get into an accident and the cars are movable Houchin says exchange information and file a report at a later time.
