A 43-year old Lincoln woman died after being struck by a vehicle shortly before 8:00 Thursday night near 43rd and Leighton.  The investigation revealed a 2008 Saturn Vue was eastbound on Leighton Ave between 41st and 44th in the outside lane of traffic and struck a pedestrian crossing the road,” says Captain Todd Kocian.

He says Monica Salazar was taken to a hospital where she died from her injuries.  Kocian says it appears the woman driving the SUV saw Salazar and tried to swerve, but could not avoid the collision. There is no crosswalk where the crash happened.

Kocian says the driver was not cited and the investigation is continuing.  Anyone who witnessed the crash or has more information is asked to contact the Lincoln Police Department at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
