A Nebraska State Penitentiary staff member was seriously injured Saturday during an assault by an inmate.
The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services reported the inmate was exiting a shower when they punched the staff member in the side of the head. The inmate used a closed fist which knocked the staffer to the ground. The staff member was treated for a cheekbone fracture at a local hospital.
An investigation of the incident has been launched. Findings will be provided to the county attorney for determination of criminal prosecution. The NDCS disciplinary process will be utilized with sanctions such as loss of good time, applied according to the rules and regulations.
