In an effort to sustain promising momentum, the state’s medical marijuana ballot initiative is gunning to start 2024 off strong.
Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana (NMM), the ballot committee leading the effort to put the legalization of medical cannabis before voters in November 2024, is hosting a year-end signing event at all five Wine, Beer and Spirits locations across the state with a total signature goal of 60,000.
NMM Campaign Manager Crista Eggers told KLIN News, “We feel good about our progress and our momentum. But every single last signature truly does matter… it helps us reach our internal campaign goals and fuels us into 2024.”
Volunteering patients, families, caregivers will be available at Lincoln’s Wine, Beer, and Spirits store located at 5220 N 27th St, during the store’s open hours 9 a.m. – 9 p.m., as well as store in Omaha, Fremont, and Grand Island.
Individuals who have petitions in hand are encouraged to drop them off at these locations as well.
While speaking with Eggers, she emphasized the impactful goal of the NMM campaign. Her 9-year-old son struggles with epilepsy and severe seizures, “He has spent, unfortunately, a lot of his holiday break in the hospital, dealing with seizures. This fight never ends for my family, and so many others.”
More information on NMM’s ‘Last Chance to Sign’ event can be found at nebraskamarijuana.org/wbs.
NMM is coursing for 87,000 signatures from verified voter signatures on two separate initiatives, the Patient Protection Act and the Medical Cannabis Regulation Act, for the July 3, 2024 turn in deadline. Additionally, the drives must collect signatures from 5% of voters in at least 38 of Nebraska’s 93 counties.
If the campaign can clear both of these hurdles, the two measures would go before voters on the November 5th, 2024.
