Candidates will spar for Nebraska’s 3rd Congressional district seat, with a republican challenger adding his name to the 2024 primary ticket.

Running self-described as a “MAGA candidate,” expressing intentions to “Save the Republic,” Hastings resident John Walz announced Wednesday he will run in the Republican primary in Nebraska’s 3rd Congressional District, opposing longtime incumbent Adrian Smith who has held the seat since 2007.

Walz is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, an entrepreneur, and has career experience as an engineer. He’s been married for over three decades and is the father of 10 children.

In his campaign announcement, Walz plugs his Christian faith, an “unwavering commitment to God, family, and country,” and a “deep-rooted understanding of American history.”

His statement saves space for mention of purported political foes, “John is well versed in both historical narratives and present-day challenges facing the nation. He asserts a firm grasp on the overt intentions of America’s adversaries—be it the communists, radical Islam, or global elites—who openly plot the downfall of the nation.”

Walz offers his step-by-step vision to “safeguard the nation’s future”:

Get down on our knees and invoke God’s intervention.

Learn why and how the US was founded.

Learn who the enemies are and their plans to defeat America.

Work to put courageous patriots into all elected positions.

In reference to his late entry into this race, Walz stated, “I am seeking many volunteers and contributions ASAP because the runway is short.”

“For the sake of our kids, and all future generations, we must Save the Republic, we must vote MAGA, we must vote Walz for US Congress,” his announcement concludes.
