The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services says two inmates died at the Reception and Treatment Center in Lincoln this week. Officials say 77-year-old Thomas Nesbitt died Wednesday and 69-year-old Michael Pendell died Thursday.
Nesbitt was serving a life sentence for first-degree murder out of Douglas County. Pendell was serving a 25- to 50-year sentence for first-degree sexual assault of a child out of Gage County.
Department officials say a cause of death has not yet been determined, but both men were being treated for medical conditions. A grand jury will investigate both deaths as required by state law.
