Salvation Army of Lincoln is Helping Families in Need this Holiday Season

By Chase Porter Dec 13, 2023 | 2:01 PM

The number of families in need has significantly increased this year, and The Salvation Army of Lincoln is working to make a difference.

The Salvation will be distributing toys and food boxes to pre-registered families this coming Tuesday, December 19th starting at 9 a.m., to ensure no one in the community goes hungry or without gifts for the holidays.

“We’ve had a lot of families express to us how important this is to them this year, with many stretching their dollars just to meet their basic needs,” Salvation Army Captain Kelsie Moreno told KLIN News.

Registration goes through Thursday, December 14th. To register, families must visit the Salvation Army office located at 2625 Potter Street, and provide household information.

Additionally, the “Angel Tree Collections” program will run through the end of the week. Angel trees can be found throughout the community (e.g. Walmart, Sam’s Club) If people are able, they can select a tag from the tree and shop for the suggested gift. The Salvation is most in need of gifts for kids ages 13 to 16.

Over 2300 children will receive toys through the Tree of Lights Campaign this year.

Donations to the Tree of Lights campaign can be made online at lincolnredkettle.org, to any local red kettle, or dropped off in person at 2625 Potter Street.
