Lancaster County Commissioner Christa Yoakum will be seeking re-election in 2024. Yoakum was first elected in 2020 and has worked in the nonprofit and health care sectors. During her first term, Yoakum voted to lower the Lancaster County Property Tax Levy three times, including one of the largest cuts in the county’s history.
“I’m proud of our work lowering the property tax rate, supporting public safety, and prioritizing mental health care the past four years. I’m running for re-election to keep working for Lancaster County families,” Yoakum says. “We don’t need partisan politics on the county board, but people who get things done.”
Yoakum also highlighted the board’s work on criminal justice reform. “We’ve increased support to community programs like the Veterans Treatment Court, which helps our veterans get the treatment they need and get back on their feet.”
Infrastructure has been a top priority as well. “We’ve invested in repairing roads and bridges across the county, and worked with the legislature and city of Lincoln to secure a new drinking water source. These are vital investments in the future of Lancaster County.”
A life-long resident of Nebraska, Yoakum grew up in Lancaster County and lived in McCook and Alliance before moving with her family to Lincoln. She and her husband John have four children. The Primary Election is May 14, 2024.
