A retrofitting project in Wilderness Park will result in the removal of trees over the next week.
A tree removal project in Wilderness Park will run from Friday, December 8, through Friday, December 15. Trees will be removed along the former Rock Island Railway line west of the Great Plains Trails Network Connector Bridge and east of Highway 77.
There are no new trail closures for this project. The project will support a retrofit project on the Rock Island Bridge over Salt Creek scheduled for summer 2024.
Tree removal is scheduled over the winter to avoid sensitive periods for threatened specie, and will be limited to the minimum amount necessary to support construction. Wood debris will remain on site.
