By Tom Stanton Dec 6, 2023 | 12:34 PM

A Lincoln couple returning to their home near 30th and Holdrege Tuesday evening found a man armed with a sword standing at the entrance of their driveway hitting their fence. Sergeant Chris Vollmer says they then called 911.

He says when officers arrived they saw 47-year-old Jamie Akin armed with a 26-inch sword. “Akin ran after seeing the arriving cruisers and officers gave chase.”  Vollmer says officers caught Akin in the parking lot of The Life Church near on the corner of 30th and Holdrege.

Akin refused commands to drop his sword and he was hit with a Taser and a non-lethal bean bag round from a 12-gauge shotgun.   Akin was taken into custody and transported to a nearby hospital.  He was was medically cleared and taken to the Lancaster County Jail.

Akin was booked for terroristic threats, use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, possession of a weapon by a prohibited person and failure to obey a lawful police order.
