An inmate at the Nebraska State Penitentiary has died. Department of Corrections officials say 85-year-old Leonard Svitak died Monday at a Lincoln hospital. Svitak’s sentence began in 1974. He was serving a 10 year to life sentence for second degree murder out of Lancaster County.
The cause of death has not yet been determined, but Svitak was being treated for a medical condition.
As is the case whenever an inmate dies in the custody of the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services, a grand jury will conduct an investigation.
