Nebraska Volleyball Dominates Big Ten Season Awards

By Kaleb Henry Nov 30, 2023 | 11:48 AM

Nebraska volleyball nearly completed a clean sweep of league awards.

The Big Ten Conference announced season awards and all-conference teams Thursday. NU had four of the five individual awards and placed six players on All-Big Ten teams, a program record.

John Cook was named 2023 Big Ten Coach of the Year by both his fellow coaches and the media. It’s his fourth career Big Ten Coach of the Year accolade and eighth all-time conference coach of the year honor.

Libero Lexi Rodriguez earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year for the second time in her career. She is the fifth player in Big Ten history to receive that honor twice.

Setter Bergen Reilly was chosen as Big Ten Setter of the Year. She is the first ever freshman to earn the award since it originated in 2012.

As for the top freshman in the league, Harper Murray was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year. She’s the second Husker to earn the honor after Madi Kubik did so in 2019.

Merritt Beason, Murray, Reilly, and Rodriguez were all named to the All-Big Ten First Team. Beason and Rodriguez were unanimous selections.

Middle blockers Bekka Allick and Andi Jackson were selected to the All-Big Ten Second Team.

Reilly, Murray, and Jackson earned spots on the All-Freshman team.
