Police Respond To Third Swatting Call At Lincoln Home

By Tom Stanton Nov 29, 2023 | 1:59 PM

Police responded to a home in north Lincoln around 11:00 Tuesday night after receiving a 911 call saying a man had shot a woman. Sergeant Chris Vollmer says the call turned out to be another swatting incident.

“Essentially what happens with these situations is someone will call in from an internet-based number and usually report some sort of egregious act that’s in progress trying to elicit the largest law enforcement response they can get.”

He says this was the third swatting incident at this house since September.   “It’s unfortunate that these happen when entry gets forced into a home where someone hasn’t done anything wrong,” Vollmer says.

It’s also an issue for the responding officers involved in the past situations.  “You have a question in the back of your mind whether or not this is legitimate and that can create a lax in some officer safety.”

Vollmer says there was one positive in an otherwise serious situation.  “It was nice that the officers were able to have some questions about whether or not this was real so they took a much softer approach and it ended up working out just fine.”
