Fire caused $200,000 thousand damage to a house near 2nd and E Street Tuesday morning. Public Information Officer MJ Lierman says a neighbor called 911 around 9:30 a.m. after seeing smoke. Firefighters got inside and found the fire in the kitchen.
The flames burned up through the attic. Lierman says the fire was sparked by a pan that had been left on the burner from the night before. “Five occupants were displaced. Red Cross was called to assist the family and friends have set them up a Go Fund Me account with their losses,” Lierman says.
She says the home was a total loss. A family cat died in the fire and a second one was rescued from the basement.
