The Pentagon is the headquarters building of the United States Department of Defense. The Sanford Pentagon served as the headquarters for Nebraska men’s basketball’s Department of Defense Saturday afternoon.
Nebraska overpowered Oregon State 84-63 in Sioux Falls. NU is now 5-0 to begin a season for the first time since 2008-09.
The Beavers raced out to a 6-0 lead to begin the game, but the Huskers fought to keep it a back and forth game midway through the first half. Then, with NU up 18-15, the defense took over and the offense took off.
Oregon State went scoreless for the next 8:03 and didn’t make a basket for a 9:39 stretch. Nebraska, meanwhile, went nuts on offense. The Huskers put together a 20-0 run to help take a 44-24 lead into the break.
Nebraska kept the intensity after halftime, pushing the lead beyond 30 points before getting plenty of playing time throughout the bench and coasting to the 84-63 final.
NU shot 46.2 percent for the game, including 8-of-24 on 3s. OSU made 35.2 percent of their shots and went 6-of-22 from 3.
Brice Williams led Nebraska with a game-high 25 points. Rienk Mast (15 points, 13 rebounds) and Juwan Gary (12 points, 10 rebounds) both notched double-doubles.
Nebraska returns home Wednesday to host Duquesne.
