Nebraska Rolls Alcorn State; Jaz Shelley Leaves With Injury

By Kaleb Henry Nov 14, 2023 | 9:25 PM

Nebraska women’s basketball got both the good and the bad Tuesday night.

“We faced some adversity tonight,” Nebraska coach Amy Williams said. “I thought we had some players that stepped up and found ways to contribute for our team.”

The Huskers easily handled Alcorn State 79-32, but early in the first quarter All-Big Ten guard Jaz Shelley fell to floor, grabbing at her leg. She would get help off the court to the locker room, returning with a boot on her right foot.

“We’re gonna have to take it day to day,” Williams said. “I really don’t know at this point (if Shelley will be able to play against Creighton Sunday). I’m hopeful to learn a little bit more about that but its probably going to be tomorrow before I know any more about that chance.”

Also missing from the game were Anni Stewart, Maddie Krull, Allison Weidner, and Maggie Mendelson. Williams said Stewart is “day to day” as they evaluate her injury, presumably to her right ankle or foot as she was in a boot.

In the last couple minutes of the game, Callin Hake went down after a layup and grabbed for her left knee. Hake did walk off on her own power to be evaluated by the training staff.

Nebraska shot 49 percent for the game, including 6-of-19 on 3s. Alcorn State managed just 19 percent shooting.

Alexis Markowski paced the Huskers with a game high 20 points. Hake pitched in 14 points and seven rebounds while Logan Nissley added 10 points.

Natalie Potts grabbed a game high 11 rebounds.

Nebraska stays home Sunday to host Creighton.
