A retired LPD officer is being credited with the arrest of man wanted for sexually assaulting a child. Lancaster County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says the fugitive task force had been looking for 42-year-old Christopher Hunt since July.
Houchin says at the time they knew Hunt had been a transient. “They reached out to LPD investigator Melissa Ripley, who works with the homeless population. She also reached out to a retired LPD officer who she knew walked in the area where there were some camps where the homeless live.”
Houchin says the retired officer was shown a photo of Hunt and remembered seeing him in the past. On Monday afternoon while walking on a trail, the officer saw Hunt sitting on a park bench near 38th and Franklin reading.
The fugitive task force was contacted and they took Hunt into custody. “This is just a great show of how both agencies work together and how once you’re a cop you’re always a cop, even if you are retired.”
