A County bridge south of Lincoln, near the town of Roca, is now open.

Lancaster County Engineers have concluded work on County Bridge S-180, located on Roca Road between S 82nd and S 96th, after the completion of the largest bridge-to-box culvert replacement project in Lancaster County to date.

This project removed a steel deck girder bridge built in 1958. This bridge was closed due to loss of soil behind the bridge’s back walls that caused settlement on the roadway. In addition, this bridge was rated “Poor” by bridge inspectors.

The new concrete-culvert was designed to incorporate modern environmental practices, slowing the water down as it enters the lake. This will prevent the creek from becoming wider and deeper in the future. The length of the new culvert will also allow drivers to have an increased area of recovery if they leave the roadway in this area.

This project cost approximately $1,162,845.00.
