LFR crews responded to an apartment building near 56th and Nebraska Parkway around 7:45 Monday morning. “We were called for a lot of smoke from a dryer fire,” says LFR Public Information Officer MJ Lierman.
She says there was a lot of smoke in the apartment and damage is estimated at between $10,000 and $15,000. Three people living in the damaged unit were displaced and no one was hurt. Lierman reminds residents of apartment complexes to leave the building when the smoke alarms sound. She says they had some trouble evacuating all of the residents.
She says it’s also important for people to clean the dryer lint trap after each use to prevent these types of fires.
