The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Department has identified the person killed in a multi-vehicle crash around 12:30 Saturday afternoon on Southwest 14th Street near Highway 33. The sheriff’s department says a northbound SUV struck the rear of a semi-trailer.
The SUV then went into the southbound lane and into the path of a pickup truck driven by 53-year-old Bradley Kreifels of Crete. Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says Kreifels died at the scene. His wife Lori was a passenger and was taken to a Lincoln hospital for treatment. Kreifels was an employee of the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services for many years.
One other person was taken to the hospital. Houchin says speed was a factor in the crash and they are trying to determine if the SUV driver had been drinking. Houchin says he was not wearing a seatbelt.
