Lincoln Transportation and Utilities officials are inviting residents to take part in it’s first “Name That Snowplow” contest. From now through mid-November residents can submit snowplow names.

“Winter in Lincoln is a time when our city’s strength and resilience shine through. Our dedicated snowfighters work tirelessly to keep our streets safe, and this year, we want to add an amusing twist to their essential work,” says LTU Director Liz Elliott.  “This contest provides a unique opportunity for our community to engage, have some fun and leave their mark on the city’s winter landscape.”

Elliott says from now through November 12 the community can submit snowplow names by clicking here.   LTU snowfighters will then select 25 names for a public vote.  Residents will then be able to vote for their favorite snowplow names by clicking here  from November 22 through December 6.

LTU will announce the winners on December 7.  “These snowplows are not just machines. They are symbols of our commitment to ensuring everyone’s safety during the winter season,” Elliott says.

Here are the contest guidelines:

  • Snowplow name submissions must be 15 characters or less, including spaces.
  • The name cannot include your name.
  • No profanity or inappropriate language is permitted.
  • If the same name is submitted multiple times, the person who submits the name first will be selected.
  • City of Lincoln employees and their family members are excluded from participation in the contest.
  • Names or words protected by copyright or trademark will not be accepted.
  • By submitting an entry, participants agree to the City of Lincoln using submitted entries in a public and official capacity.
  • Names of the winning participants will be shared in a news release, City of Lincoln website, and on City of Lincoln social media sites.
  • Winners will be notified via phone or email.
