A southeast Lincoln home was damaged by fire just before 10:00 Friday morning. LFR Public Information Officer MJ Lierman says crews found smoke coming from the home near 50th and La Salle when they arrived.
She says the homeowners were not home at the time. “It was called in by some neighbors that saw flames coming from the roofline of the house. Crews made a quick attack to the kitchen and got it put out.”
Lierman says the cause of the fire was an electric dehydrator that was drying apple slices. Damage is estimated at $125,000. She tells KLIN News one dog and a cat died in the fire and another cat was taken to an emergency vet. Several other pets were rescued, including a number of snakes and a bearded dragon.
The Red Cross will be assisting the homeowners.
