Back to back Husker games this weekend could be a traffic nightmare for fans, but Lincoln Transpiration and Utilities (LTU) has a plan… coupled with some advice.
“There’s going to be lots of congestion around the Antelope Valley, Salt Creek Roadway intersection area there,” Shane Dostal with LTU told KLIN News.
The Huskers will kick off against Northwestern in Memorial Stadium at 2:30 p.m., Dostal suspects that game will wrap up around 5:30-6… (im)perfect timing for the 7:00 p.m. Husker Volleyball game against Wisconsin… taking place just blocks away at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
Both sporting events taking place on adjacent sides of the aforementioned intersection of Antelope Valley & Salt Creek Roadway. “Practice patience. I would imagine there will be lots of stop traffic trying to get to the volleyball game and leave the husker game. Be attentive to the other drivers in front of you,” Dostal reminds us.
Dostal says Lincoln Police will be in the area of the volleyball game, controlling the intersection of Antelope Valley and Transformation Drive. “They’ll be helping pedestrians get across the street while they also get traffic moving to and from football game and the volleyball game,” he said.
In terms of recommended routes to take make sure you don’t get snared by the gridlock, Dostal says, “When your coming to Devaney, come from the north and not from the south, it’ll definitely get you there much quicker and much safer. For the football fans, it appears the weather is going to be fantastic Saturdays. Maybe stick around a little bit after the game and let the volleyball fans get to their game and then leave. It’ll kind of help everybody out in that situation.”
