You have a chance to include a little green in your sugar stuffed Halloween haul this year.

Lincoln and Lancaster County homeowners are invited to the third annual “Trick or Tree” tree distribution event at 9 a.m., Saturday, October 14 at Air Park West, 4000 NW. 46th Street, near the Arnold Heights Swimming Pool and Air Park West Community Center.

Multiple species of trees are being made available to be planted on private property in Lancaster County. The supply is limited to 300 trees distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, and each vehicle may receive one tree. For the safety of participants and volunteers, residents must remain in their cars while volunteers load trees into their vehicles. Organizers are asking participants to plan accordingly for your vehicle to properly travel. The trees may be laid flat during short transport.

The locally grown trees are distributed in three-gallon containers and include planting and care instructions. Most of these trees will be anywhere from 4-6+ feet tall. Species include Autumn Brilliance Serviceberry, Baldcypress, Canada Red Select Cherry, Northern Catalpa, Shadblow Serviceberry, Swamp White Oak, White Pine, and White Spruce.

“This event continues to help the capital city grow the community tree canopy – one tree at a time. Planting trees is an investment in a healthier, happier future for us all,” said Maggie Stuckey-Ross, Parks and Recreation Director.
