The Nebraska State Patrol says a Louisville man was killed around noon Monday after his combine was struck by a loaded coal train in northern Gage County. The patrol says the crash happened at a railroad crossing near the intersection of S 110th Street and E Apple Road, southeast of Firth.
The patrol says 65-year-old Benjamin Scholting was pronounced deceased at the scene. Troopers are conducting a full crash reconstruction investigation.
The Nebraska State Patrol was assisted by the Gage County Sheriff’s Office, Firth Fire Department and Burlington Northern Santa Fe.
