Bryan Medical Center has debuted new safety and guest-experience changes to ensure workface safety and patient healing.

All patients, visitors and staff entering the emergency department at Bryan East Campus will now be greeted by a new screening device called “Evolv.”

The state of the art scanner is a safety and screening device that is used in stadiums, arenas, schools and hospitals across the country. It’s effective in detecting weapons while minimizing disruption, allowing individuals to pass without removing items or clothing.

In January, Bryan installed Evolv in the entrance of the emergency department at Bryan West Campus. To date, more than 115,000 scans have prevented hundreds of weapons from entering the building, including firearms, knives and box cutters

Violence against healthcare professionals has followed an alarming upward trend nationwide. In response, hospitals are implementing policies to continue to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff. At Bryan Medical Center, reported incidents of workplace violence have increased sevenfold from 2020 to 2022.

Additionally, Bryan East Campus will have new visiting hours:

  • 5 a.m. – 8:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday
  • 8 a.m. – 8:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday
  • Current Bryan Family Birthplace, mental health and emergency department hours do not change

Hours will also be expanded for public access at the main hospital entrance on Bryan East Campus. The entrance will be staffed by security and remain open from 5 – 8:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday and 8 a.m. – 8:30 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Previously, the entrance was not accessible at those times.

“The safety of our patients and staff is at the forefront of everything we do,” said Jeff Bliemeister, safety and security director at Bryan Medical Center. “Implementing these policies will allow us to even better provide a safe hospital environment where patients can heal and families can visit.”
