Lincoln residents will have a “presidential” musical experience tomorrow night.
For the first time in five years “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band will return to Nebraska on tour, performing free, public concerts. The premiere ensemble of the Marine Corps has the unique mission: “To provide music for the President of the United States and the Commandant of the Marine Corps.”
The band will pack Lincoln Northeast High School in Lincoln on Tuesday, Oct. 3. Both concerts are at 7:30 p.m.
Free tickets are now available online at www.marineband.marines.mil and are limited to 4 per request. Seating is general admission and ticket holders must be seated by 7:15 p.m.; remaining seats will be released to the standby line at that time.
KLIN News spoke with Staff Sgt. Chase Baran ahead of the event, who said the troupe has aspecial connection to the city of Lincoln, “Lincoln was actually one of the first tour cities that the Marine Band went to back in 1891, which was our first ever tour. This year will be our 13th time. We enjoy it each time we come.”
Concertgoers can expect a mix of works including traditional band repertoire, Sousa marches, contemporary compositions, vocal and instrumental solos and a patriotic salute to the Armed Forces.
By the end of this year’s 31-day tour, the Marine Band will have covered more than 4,600 miles to and around the Midwest, performing in 29 different cities in 11 states.
