A 41-year-old man was arrested early Friday morning after Lincoln Police say he assaulted his female roommate with a baseball bat. It happened at a house near South Folsom Street and West Old Cheney.

Sergeant Chris Vollmer says when officers arrived they found 41-year-old Dale Kesselring being restrained on the ground by a neighbor.  The woman told police that Kesserling went into her bedroom and began hitting her with a metal bat for an unknown reason.

The woman was able to run to a neighbors house for help, but police say Kesselring followed and continued hitting her with a bat.  Vollmer says the neighbor grabbed a shovel and used it to disarm Kesselring and restrain him.  The neighbor was also struck with the bat, but was not seriously hurt.

The woman suffered several serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Kesselring was arrested for first-degree assault, second-degree assault and two counts of using a weapon to commit a felony.
