While tonight’s high school games are likely spared… Husker fans may be bracing for strong winds, hail, and even a tornado.

KLIN News caught up with National Weather Service Meteorologist Paul Fajman and asked what the skies will be like this Saturday as the Huskers go head to head against the Lousiana Tech Bulldogs

Tailgating fans will be set up for the 2:30 kickoff, “There is a marginal risk for severe weather,” said Fajman, “It’s a level 2 out of 5 on the severe weather scale… storms are probably going to develop east of the Missouri River.”

But Fajman didn’t give us the all clear, “Lincoln may be clear for the game, but there still is some low end chances that we could see some storms on game day…threats of hail, strong winds, and even a tornado.”

Previous scattered storm chances for Friday have mostly dissipated, Fajman says, likely sparing high school athletics for tonight, “We could see some weaker storms develop around 8:00-9:00 p.m. but nothing that appears terribly severe.”

In the wake of Saturdays game, as cornhusker fans scramble—either back home or out to party—Fajman says they shouldn’t have much to worry about, “Once we get that system out of here in the afternoon, our football fans should be in the clear.”
