A 55-year old Lincoln man is dead following a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 6 near the Waverly exit late Thursday night. The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office says three motorcycles and two cars were involved in the crash just after 11:00 p.m.
Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says two Dodge Chargers were traveling side-by-side on westbound Highway 6 and all three motorcycles were behind them. Houchin says the cars began slowing down and one of the motorcycle riders had to abruptly brake. A second motorcycle rear-ended the first one causing them to strike the back of the cars. All three motorcycle riders lost control and crashed.
Houchin says Bradley Krutz was thrown from his motorcycle and died at the scene. A 60-year-old man from Murdock was injured and taken to the hospital. Houchin says a 22-year-old Lincoln man hit some debris in the roadway and laid his motorcycle on the ground. He says the man got his bike back up and left the scene. They were able to later identify him. “We’re not exactly sure why he left, doesn’t make sense.”
Houchin says they are looking into the possibility that the two cars were street racing, which has become more common on that stretch of road. He believes the motorcycles were speeding prior to the crash and they are checking to see if alcohol was a factor and if they were wearing proper helmets.
