Lincoln Police are searching for the driver that crashed into the back of a car driven by Husker volleyball outside hitter Lindsay Krause last Wednesday afternoon at 48th and O Street. Sergeant Chris Vollmer says after the crash Krause pulled into a commercial parking lot to exchange information, but the other driver took off.
Vollmer says they respond to numerous crashes near that intersection. “The majority of accidents near that area are rear-end accidents because it’s where it reduces from three to two lanes. Some people are aware that far north lane is a turn lane only and try to get past as many cars as they can before they merge in.”
Krause suffered minor injuries in the crash and missed Sunday night’s match against Kentucky. Head volleyball coach John Cook voiced frustration about the incident Sunday night. “Some guy who is speeding all over the place, which always happens on O Street. She was right by Chic-fil-A and some dude came flying and smacked her and took off. Shouldn’t be happening in Lincoln,” Cook says.
Sergeant Vollmer says he understands the Cook’s position. “I don’t fault coach Cook for his frustration. A lot of pride in the culture that they’ve built around there and I assume that’s the product of caring for your athletes and knowing that your athletes care about them.”
Vollmer says they conducted a special enforcement effort along O Street from May to August where 662 citations or arrests were made for speeding and a variety of other infractions. Cook says Krause is day-to-day.
