By Tom Stanton Sep 12, 2023 | 6:45 AM

The Lincoln Police Department conducted a specialized traffic enforcement project that focused on school zone safety from August 14 through September 8.  During that time, LPD assigned additional officers to conduct high visibility traffic enforcement near schools in Lincoln to begin the school year.

LPD says there were a total of 503 total citations, warnings and arrests.  Results included 195 speeding citations, 42 seatbelt citations and seven for violating a traffic signal.  22 drivers were cited for not having insurance and 62 for no valid registration.

There were 33 citations issued for a variety of other traffic violations. The project was funded through a grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office.
