A 14-year-old boy is facing several charges after investigators say he crashed a stolen pickup into a pole near NW 56th and Adams Street around 11:30 Friday morning.  Lancaster County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says the truck was stolen from a driveway near 7th and Saltillo Road around 11:30 Thursday morning after the keys had been left in the ignition.

Houchin says the pickup was found Friday afternoon neat Northwest 56th and Adams.  “The stolen pickup crashed into an electrical pole and did major damage to it.  There was a citizen in the area who witnessed three juveniles running from the location.”

Houchin says the truck hit the pole head-on and says it’s fortunate that there were no serious injuries because no seat belts were worn. He says about 20 minutes after that crash the teens were spotted near 10th and Superior and they were taken into custody.

Houchin says the 14-year-old boy admitted to stealing the vehicle he was cited for felony theft, careless driving, leaving the scene of an injury accident and other charges.  The 13 and 15-year-old girls who were riding in the truck were not cited.
