This Saturday, coming to an observatory near you… StarBQ Episode IX: Barbeque Strikes Back… Again!
Hundreds are expected to fill up the Branched Oak Observatory grounds this weekend for a Star Wars themed barbeque fundraiser, the 9th annual Fall StarBQ.
Stormtroopers of the 501st Legion- Central Garrison and a number of other Star Wars characters will be roaming the grounds, posing for photos and enjoying delicious food trucks. FlyDogz, Kona Ice, and SoulFULL Cocina Food will line up for service from 5:00-8:00 p.m.
In leu of Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes’ cantina-style bebop, the Last Minute Band will be playing your favorite classic rock, blues, and country jams.
Attendees will keep busy with numerous activities for all ages. Kids can enjoy Space-Crafts, Science Demonstrations with the UNL Society of Physics Students , and a “touch a meteorite” display in the new Kunkel Family Multipurpose Center. Outside in the field there will be a play area with Blackhole (our version of Cornhole), Bolo Ladder Golf, and our Giant Moon Map.
Everyone who attends this year will receive one free raffle entry, with optional tickets on sale ($5 ea.) between 5:00 and 8:30pm. Prizes include an 8″ Dobsonian Telescope, a Tabletop Telescope, a Light Saber, astrophotography prints, Binoculars, astronomy books, and more.
