A defective gas detector forced Walmart shoppers out of the store for about an hour, Thursday afternoon.
Lincoln Fire & Rescue Public Information Officer MJ Lierman said crews were called to the North Lincoln Walmart shopping center near N 27th and Superior around 1:30 p.m. on a reported gas leak.
Hazmat units were en route, but upon investigation, a cooling unit alarm indicated the gas in question was the chemical refrigerant Freon.
LFR evacuated staff and shoppers to isolate the space until they could get a refrigeration technician on location.
It was determined to be a faulty detector on the system, no Freon was actually leaked.
